One positive, fulfilling thing I’ve heard this trimester is “I feel like I can move better and it doesn’t hurt anymore.” That was a quote from a fellow student after receiving an adjustment from me in the student clinic. Yes, I’ve heard this in technique classes before, but it means something different hearing it in the student clinic. I am their doctor. I am evaluating their care plan, assessing them, and deciding on the proper treatment. I give advice. I adjust them.
I just started seeing patients in the student clinic this trimester. It feels good to treat others in the student clinic. Of course we are supervised by licensed doctors of chiropractic, but I’m still doing most of the things a chiropractor would do on a normal daily visit. The clinicians guide us, answer questions, and sign off on treatments. They’re a huge help, yet I’m the doctor for the student that came in to see me that day.
This new milestone and position in the program comes with many responsibilities. Yes, documentation can be a hassle, but it’s worth it hearing your patients tell you how good they feel and seeing a smile on their face when they move with greater ease than before they came in.
